Ministry of Internal Affairs is implementing an unprecedented project. In full compliance of western experience and standards, new structural sub-unit- Joint Operations Center was created, which is a centralized technology hub, uniting all structural MIA sub-units.
High technology center was opened by Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishsvili and Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. The event was attended by members of the Georgian government and diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia.
“It was a very ambitious project, however I’m proud to say that with the support of the prime minister and my team, we managed to accomplish this! This is a future police of the 21st century. Similar centers are operational only in a few developed countries and it’s the latest approach in the field of crime detection and prevention. However, exact analogy of our Joint Operations Center does not exist in any other state. It is unique owning to the multi functions and covers several directions simultaneously: provides monitoring and analysis and ensures unified management of the police forces as well as support. This novelty will enable us to: ensure prompt response on crime and crime prevention in a real-time regime, increase the degree of safety and security. Additionally, police activities will be carried out more efficiently and quality of investigation process will be increased”- stated Minister.
Created center, which is based on high technologies, will ensure: introduction and development of crime control unified system; spotting and detection of crime or intention of committing one as well as detection of wanted persons, suspicious items and abandoned vehicles; traffic safety; monitoring of incidents and activities held in this direction by the law enforcers, analysis of police daily activities, unified management of MIA units during large-scale activities.
It is notable that since introduction of the mentioned technologies the index of crime from 416 000 has fallen to 121 770 in London. According to the data collected in 2014 the index of crime decreased by 9,5% in New York, by 26% in Chicago and by 10-15% in Spain.
With the newly established high technologies and Joint Operations Center, Georgia will be involved in unified global security system, becoming ally in the fight against terrorism, drugs and human trafficking.
Besides the opening of the center, Ministry of Internal Affairs will launch analysis-based pilot project in three cities of the country. Project will substitute the approach based on statistic, thus police will be transformed into a force focused on eradication of crime and not with the consequences.
