The First Meeting of State Commission Supporting Suppresion of Distributing New Psychoactive Substances was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Commission is composed of the representatives from Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia. The Commission conducts monitoring over the problematic issues related to new psychoactive substances and over implementation of the relevant law.
Members of the Commission stated that implementation of the Law “On New Psychoactive Substances” is being conducted effectively, they discussed the issues related to appearance of new types of NPS, and agreed upon the response from relevant agencies.
The Commission is authorized to prepare proposals for the Georgian Government in order to initiate amendments to the annexes of the Law “On New Psychoactive Substances”.
The purpose of the Commission activities is to create a unified picture on the situation relating to new psychoactive substances in the country: to observe so-called “black market” in order to identify which new psychoactive substances are involved in illicit traffic, what are the risks related to new psychoactive substances based on international experience, to analyze the information gathered from various relevant agencies in order to identify problems, to summarize the information in order to publish quarterly and annual reports.
