The Third Meeting of State Commission Supporting Suppression of Distributing New Psychoactive Substances was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The Commission is composed of the representatives from Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs and Ministry of Finance of Georgia. The function of the State Commission is to conduct permanent monitoring over the challenges related to new psychoactive substances and over implementation of the relevant legislation.
The current issues related to controlling illicit traffic in new psychoactive substances from various perspectives of law enforcement, health protection and customs - have been addressed at the Meeting. The State Commission members also discussed the preparation and publication of a quarterly report, envisaged by the Law of Georgia “On New Psychoactive Substances”.
At the Meeting the parties held a discussion concerning improvement of the draft of legislative amendments presented at the Second Meeting. These amendments aim at filling the legislative gaps concerning new psychoactive substances and at making a proposal to the Government of Georgia, on the basis of the Law.
The members of the Commission highlighted that the State takes active measures in order to regulate the NPS situation within the whole country in a long-term perspective, and conducts permanent monitoring over the drug situation, generally.
