The U.S. Coast Guard handed over two Island Class 110 ft Patrol Boats to the Coast Guard Department of the MIA Border Police of Georgia at the official transfer and signing ceremony, held in Baltimore at USCG Yard. Major General Zurab Gamezardashvili, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Head of the Border Police and VADM Sandra Stosz, Deputy Commandant for Mission Support led the ceremony attended by Shalva Khutsishvili, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and other dignitaries from the Georgian Coast Guard and Embassy of Georgia to the United States as well as U.S. government and military command.
The transferred patrol boats will be used in patrolling activities to detect and react to the threats in the maritime space with a focus on the provision of the security along the Georgian coastline. The Georgian Coast Guard will as well use them in joint maritime operations together with the partner countries.
It should be outlined that the US Government provides a ten-week retraining program for the crews of the given patrol boats.
