Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Giorgi Mgebrishvili held a meeting with James A. Walsh, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. U.S. ambassador to Georgia, Mr. Ian C. Kelly, along with representatives of Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and other relevant officials of the MIA also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, parties emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and U.S. Department of State. Mr. Mgebrishvili and Mr. Walsh also discussed the results of collaboration between the two institutions and their future plans.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili thanked the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for INL’s great contribution to the fight against transnational and organized crime, trafficking, cybercrime and domestic violence.
Parties also addressed the new large-scale road safety programme initiated by the MIA, which among other components - such as legislative amendments, envisaged equipment of the Patrol Police with relevant technical devices.
After the meeting, James Walsh and Ian Kelly personally handed in car computers to the representatives of Patrol Police Department of MIA that were purchased within the frames of INL programme. Equipment of patrol cars with modern devices will greatly contribute to the more efficient functioning of the department, timely response to offenses and prevention of road accidents.
