Emergency Situations Management Agency opened sea season in Adjara. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Merab Malaniam Director of Emergency Situations Management Agency –Zviad Katsashvili, head of Adjara local government Zurab Pataridze and representatives of the local governance.
Deputy Minister congratulated rescuers with the opening of the season and thanked for their job. “The Ministry of Internal Affairs is carrying out various preparatory works each year to enable our population and our country visitors to have safe and comfortable vacation in the maritime resorts of Georgia. As a result of the measures taken, the number of accidents on the sea significantly decreased. Our rescuers have rescued hundreds of people in the last two years thanks to their professional and operational support; more than 700 people have been rescued in 2015-2016. On this season we are properly prepared as usual".
MIA Emergency Management Agency has selected 135 rescuers for this year's season who have undergone trainings. In order to improve the daily working conditions of rescuers for the new maritime season, the rescue unit was arranged at the Batumi Sea Port. Twelve boats have also been repaired. Rescue checkpoints have been equipped with modern marine rescue equipment, and banners installed in Georgian and English languages in the coastal zone, which will allow tourists to be warned about hazardous places for swimming in order to prevent any risks.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Merab Malania and Director of Emergency Situations Management Agency Zviad Katsashvili handed over new special rescue equipment, working forms, first aid kits and other necessary equipment.
The simulation of the rescue operation was also held during the event.
