Ms. Katerina Bolognese, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, awarded employees of temporary detention centers of Mia with certificates to mark the successful completion of the health promotion training programme in temporary detention centers. Training was conducted at Mia Academy base during three months. Main goal of the training was to improving situation in temporary detention facilities in the angle of healthcare and ensuring better protection of human rights of individuals placed in isolators.
In the framework of training programme, 230 employees of temporary detention centers throughout Georgia have been trained on establishing a healthy environment in temporary detention centersand to improve the treatment of detained persons. The trainings focused on health-related issues that are characteristic to so-called closed institutions, including the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, identification of mental health problems, prevention of suicide and managing health emergencies and crises.
The training was carried out in the framework of the EU/CoE Joint Programme “Human Rights in Prisons and Other Closed Institutions”, which was launched in July 2013 and aims to strengthen human rights and improve access to health care for persons deprived of their liberty.
