The officers of the Division for the Fight against Cybercrime of Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Counter-intelligence Department, Achara Main Division and employees of General Prosecutor’s Office as a result of the complex operative-searching and investigative activities simultaneously held in Tbilisi and Batumi detained citizen of Turkey Sheriph B. (DoB 1967) for modification or copying of the computer information protected by law, that has caused a substantial damage and damaging the property of the owner or possessor through deception and pressed charges against citizen of Georgia Giorgi B. (DoB 1989) for the same crime.
Investigation established, that Sheriph B. and Giorgi B. bought a hardware, so-called “Sim Box”. The detainees installed Ltd. Geocell, Ltd. Magticom and Ltd. Beeline sim-cards in the hardware mentioned above, which served as a gateway for international calls. The received calls entering via internet-traffic were transformed into local calls, whilst the Sim-box provided the recipient with the data of the sim cards placed in the sim box, not of the initiator of the call. As a result of changed computer data, cell companies faced revenue leakage e.i calls that should have been billed by the local mobile operators at higher international rates got billed at local “on-net” rates. Thus the detainees inflicted damage to Ltd. Geocell, Ltd. Magticom and Ltd. Beeline in the amount of 95 thousand GEL.
As a result of searching activities held at Sheriph B's apartment, the law enforcers seized so called Sim Box, 5000 Ltd. Geocell, Ltd. Magticom and Ltd. Mobitel sim cards, documentation and other notes as evidence, whilst as a result of searching conducted at Giorgi B's apartment in Tbilisi, the officers seized Sim box and sim cards as evidence.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of modification or copying of the computer information protected by law, that has caused a substantial damage and damaging the property of the owner or possessor through deception. (Article 286, part I and article 185 part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia).
