Upon the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, annual Conference of Police and Security Attachs accredited in Georgia was held at the Hotel “Radisson Blue Iveria”. The conference was opened by the welcoming speech of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili who thanked attaches for effective and fruitful cooperation.
Griogi Mgebrishvili noted that 60% of the commitments defined by Visa Liberalization Action Plan fell within the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs which was successfully accomplished by the Ministry and positively assessed by the experts. According to the Minister this conference will be one of the most successful actions within the context of fulfilling visa liberalization action plan obligations which provides for the development and strengthening of international cooperation in the field of law enforcement.
Issues related to combating organized crime and international law enforcement cooperation were discussed at the conference. Participants of the conference discussed threats and challenges faced nowadays by the international society.
The representatives of the Ministry delivered information in the form of presentations on reforms implemented within the system of the Ministry and on future plans of development.
From the Georgian side the conference was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Mgebrishvili, the head of MIA Central Criminal Police Department Ivane Papiashvili, head of MIA International Relations Department Shalva Kvinikhidze and other officials of the Ministry.
Police and security attachs of the following partner countries participated in the conference: USA (representatives of FBI and DEA, regional security officer), Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus Belgium, Turkey, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Greece, France, Armenia and Ukraine. The representative of the European Police Office (Europol) participated in the conference as well.
Within the frames of the conference, bilateral meetings were held between police and security attachs accredited in Georgia and the heads and the officials of respective sub-units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
