At the Ministry of Internal Affairs the meeting was held between Interagency Coordinating Council for the fight against Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards and representatives of donor states and organizations. At the meeting donors got familiarized with CBRN threat reduction action plan for 2015-2019 and requirements for its implementation.
The Georgian Government attaches great importance to the fight against CBRN threats. In order to form the integrated approach in the mentioned field, the Prime Minister has established the Interagency Coordinating Council. The council is chaired by the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the guidance of which CBRN threat reduction national strategy was developed which was approved by the government in 2014. In March of 2015 an action plan for 2015-2019 strategy action plan was approved.
In the sphere of CBRN security Georgia is actively cooperating with partner states, international organizations, including United States as well as EU and UN.
It is notable that Georgia is the first country within “Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centers of Excellence” of European Union to have elaborated and endorsed the mentioned document. Under the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Center (UNICRI) the mentioned document was presented in parallel with UN General Assembly's 69th session in New York, at the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (Hague, December 2014), UN regional office (Geneva, December 2014), the G7 Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction” working meeting (Munich, April, 2015).
Various countries have already expressed eagerness to share Georgia’s experience and even more, to receive assistance from Georgia in the mentioned field for elaboration of the National Action Plan.
