First responders of the Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear (CBRN) Incident Response Division of the Emergency Management Service, Special Tasks Department and the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs participated in the training on the development of CBRN collective response skills.
The interagency training, organised by the Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), was conducted in two phases over the nine days and along with the representatives of Emergency Management Service, was attended by the Ministry of Defence and the State Security Service representatives.
The first stage of the training was held at the Engineer Brigade base of the Ministry of Defence, and the second stage was conducted at the base of the Emergency Response Main Division of the Emergency Management Service. About 60 representatives of all relevant agencies, including 10 employees of the Emergency Management Service, participated in the special training. The main goal of the collective skills training was to improve CBRN incident response skills and inter-agency cooperation.
The closing ceremony was held at the base of the Emergency Response Main Division of the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Temur Mghebrishvili, Head of the Emergency Management Service, Bernard Dobner, Head of the Eurasia Office of the Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) , and Michael Bradwick, Head of the Defence Threat Reduction Program, greeted the participants and awarded them with the certificates of completion.
The Emergency Management Service has been in close cooperation with the Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) for several years in order to improve the capacity of CBRN incident response teams. Within the framework of this cooperation, a number of exercises were conducted in Georgia. In addition, in order to strengthen CBRN unit, the Agency provided EMS with CBRN special tools and modern equipment.
