Employees of Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, within the framework of the Ministry's information campaign - "Do Not Deprive Childhood" together with representatives of local police units and Public Safety Command Center 112, held informative meetings with up to 500 schoolchildren in Ajara, Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions and Tbilisi.
Within the framework of the information meetings, such important issues as: child marriage and harmful practices, existing challenges, approaches of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to crimes committed with the motive of child marriage were discussed with schoolchildren. Also, students were focused on the importance of community involvement in terms of eliminating this category of crimes and the ways and means of approaching the police.
As part of the campaign, informative posters were placed in all public and private schools in Georgia. The posters contain the necessary information for students on issues related to early marriage and ways to approach the police.
The campaign - "Do Not Deprive Childhood" is running for the fourth year in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Its purpose is to eliminate crimes related to early marriages and raise public awareness on this issue, as well as to ensure timely notification on cases of the mentioned category to law enforcement officers.
