The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia issued the special Order to ensure the conduction of By-elections and Extraordinary Elections scheduled on the 19th of May in free, democratic and safe environment.
According to this Order, the relevant territorial divisions operating in the territorial units shall ensure the prevention of the violations of the law and timely response to them in the course of pre-election campaign and directly on the day of the elections within the area of their activity.
Moreover, the Order obliges all police officers to strictly adhere to the principle of political neutrality while performing official duties.

One more measure which was already implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for ensuring the conduction of elections in peaceful environment, was the conclusion of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Election Commission.
The document was signed by Mr. Giorgi Gakharia, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, and by Ms. Tamar Zhvania, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission.
The Memorandum defined the additional forms and outlined the respective legal framework of the cooperation between the parties during the election period.
The document also provides for the cooperation between the parties, such as organizing joint measures and workshops, with the purpose of ensuring the conduction of polling process in peaceful and free environment.
