Considering high public interest, the Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to specify the incident that had place on August 4 in Batumi.
In Batumi, during the action organized by the political union “Our Homeland” the demonstrators and the party’s supporters confronted each other.
The representatives of the patrol police and criminal police immediately appeared on the scene. One of the participants of the action, who was particularly aggressive, did not obey the legal demands of police. The latter was detained on the basis of the articles 166 and 173 of the Administrative Offences Code (minor hooliganism and non-compliance with the lawful order or demand of a law-enforcement officer).
The situation was eased thanks to police’s operative intervention; patrol police extinguished the effigy with fire-extinguisher burned by the demonstrators.
It should be emphasized that the police will tackle any violations, regardless its initiator or its political or other affiliation immediately, adequately and in full compliance with the law.
