Regarding the incident that took place in Zugdidi between activists of the “United National Movement” and “Georgian Dream”, investigation is in progress under the article 118, I part of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
At this stage of investigation it was established that peaceful rally was held in front of “United National Movement” Zugdidi office, where public order was ensured by police officers. After the rally was over, physical conflict occurred between activists as a result of provocative actions near the office of “Center for Freedom and Support of Democracy”. As a result of the mentioned, five individuals from the both sides and two police officers received body injuries. Police officers managed to ease the tension as a result of the active interference. In connection with the mentioned fact and with the purpose of revealing offender, video footages disseminated by the media are being studied, witnesses interrogated and number of relevant expertises appointed. Persons responsible for the crime will bear strict punishment in accord of the law.
Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on citizens, political parties and their activists to abstain from provocative actions and act within the frames of the law.
