On November 29 of last year, during a manifestation on Rustaveli Avenue, Giorgi Zabakhidze, a senior detective of Didube-Chughureti Police Main Division of Tbilisi Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, sustained a serious eye injury as a result of being hit by a blunt object thrown by the participants of the protest rally.
The injured officer was taken to the appropriate medical facility by the ambulance crew where he was rendered medical assistance. As a result of the conducted examinations, it was determined that as a result of being hit with a blunt object, the police officer lost vision in his right eye.
According to the conclusions of doctors of the relevant profile from several clinics in Tbilisi, it was concluded that the eye is not amenable to surgery and treatment, after which the Health Protection Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs sent medical materials to several clinics in Austria, Israel and Turkey.
The employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was sent for additional examinations and treatment to the “Gven” hospital in Ankara and “Acibadem” clinic in Istanbul, however, according to the conclusion of the leading ophthalmologists of the mentioned clinics, it was impossible to restore vision.
As a result of the injuries received, the police officer completely lost vision in his right eye.
All relevant procedural and investigative actions are underway regarding the fact of severe injury of the employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At this stage, the perpetrator of the crime has not been identified.
