The officers of Telavi Police Division under Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who were patrolling territories near to Karajala village, called for public order to the assembled group of people who were engaged in verbal and physical confrontation.
In order to neutralize the tension, police officers also called for additional police groups.
Law enforcers called the confronting sides to observe public order and attempted to ease the tension, however the sides ignored the rightful requests of the police and continued the physical confrontation. One of the participants of the confrontation was particularly aggressive towards the officers and verbally and physically assaulted them.
Citizens affected as a result of the incident have been transferred to the Telavi hospital; their lives is not in danger. In the course of the incident, police officers also received various types of injuries.
The relevant investigative and procedural activities are in progress to identify individuals involved in the confrontation and those who resisted to the police officers.
The investigation was launched by Telavi Police Division regarding the fact of violence that took place between citizens in Karajala village under Article 126, while the fact of the assault and resistance perpetrated against police officers is investigated under Article 3531 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The case is being investigated by Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
