On March 23 of the current year, Isani-Samgori Police Division of Tbilisi Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation regarding the case of the alleged suicide in Africa settlement under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Shortly after the investigation was launched, law enforcement officers identified the deceased person as an under-aged S.C. (DoB 2006). Considering the mentioned circumstances, specialized investigators got involved in the course of investigation and the case was forwarded to the Main Division of Juvenile Affairs for further actions.
The investigation will be closely monitored by the Human Rights Protection and Quality Investigation Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As a result of the investigative activities, the clothes of the deceased juvenile have been seized as evidence, in particular- shoes from the scene and bag from the roof of the adjacent building owned by the juvenile.
In addition to the mentioned, other items with valuable information for the ongoing investigation have also been seized as evidence. Up to 20 witnesses have already been interviewed, including family members of the deceased, fellow juveniles and others linked to the case. Representatives and psychologists of the Agency for State Care and Assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of the Human Trafficking are also involved throughout the investigation process. All relevant expertise proceedings are scheduled to be held.
In order to establish the cause of death, investigative, operative and procedural activities are in progress.
