Ministry of Internal Affairs responds to statements made by the member of Tbilisi Council “Sakrebulo” A. D. through the media on February 21, where he accused head of Vake-Saburtalo police division A.G. for physically assaulting his son G. D.
In order not to mislead the society on purpose, Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to clarify the following:
Officers of Vake-Saburtalo police division under Tbilisi Police Department were holding investigative activities in connection with one of the criminal cases, within the frames of which G. D. was interrogated.
As it was later stated by G. D. at the General Inspection, Head of Vake-Saburtalo police division A. G. asked to enter police station along with him (the mentioned is written in interrogation records and signed by G.D). According to G. D. in connection with the mentioned, his friend L. T. had questions to the investigation. As a result, A. G. physically assaulted L.T. and forced G.D. into the police building.
From the recorded material of the police surveillance cameras installed in the inner and outer perimeter of the building it is evident that, part of the testimony given by G.D. to the General Inspection does not depict the reality (please vies the attached video file).
Herewith, owning to the high pubic interest Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to note that G.D. (DoB 1990) had been several times convicted, including the Armed robbery, illegal purchase and keeping of the firearm, hooliganism perpetrated with firearm and battery of the foreign citizen. G. D. is on probation at the moment.
From the video material extracted from police surveillance cameras it was also established that G.D. stayed in police building inly for 14 minutes.
While leaving the building G.D. had no traces of violence.
After leaving police building G.D. met his lawyer. After long discussion (which is also confirmed by the video records) Giorgi Davitadze called Patrol Police and ambulance. He stated that he was subject to the physical assault from the side of the head of Vake-Saburtalo police division A.G. during the conversation with the ambulance crew G.D. noted that he had pain in stomach area and insisted to be transferred to the hospital.
In connection with the mentioned and in order to establish the truth, investigation is underway the results of which will be made public.
