Under the initiative of the Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and with the financial support of the United Nations Children's Fund, up to 50 investigators of the Ministry specialized in juvenile justice completed 5 day additional retraining courses.
In the first stage, investigators for continuing specialized training have been selected from the towns and districts with the highest rate of crimes committed by and against the juveniles.
The retraining course was oriented both on the juveniles being in conflict with the law, as well as the victim and witness children. The training included internal and international legal issues, as well as the psychological aspects of the relationship with children.
Representatives of the Court, Prosecutor's Office, Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance, Social Service Agency, Resource Officers, Legal Aid Service and Social Workers Association participated in the training to increase coordination between ministries involved in juvenile justice. They jointly discussed the challenges faced in practice in this direction.
One of the priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is the introduction of a high standard of specialization in the department. The process of qualification raising of the investigators specialized in juvenile justice issues will continue in the future.
