The Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia was provided with modern equipment - passport readers with the financial support of the European Union.
The event was attended by the Rector of the MIA Academy – Ivane Papiashvili, Deputy Head of Cooperation Section of EU Delegation to Georgia, Catalin Gherman and IOM Georgia Chief of Mission-Sanja Celebic Lukovac.
The equipment was purchased within the framework of the project "EU4 Security, Accountability and Fight against Crime in Georgia (SAFE) - Integrated Border Management (SAFE IBM)" implemented by the International Organization for Migration.
Through the mentioned equipment, the border controllers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be trained on the issues of thorough inspection and authentication check of travel documents.
The project has been implemented in close cooperation with the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs since 2019 and its goal is to strengthen the capacity of the Government of Georgia in the field of border and migration management, in accordance with the Visa Liberalization Action Plan signed between the EU and Georgia.
