Briefing of Mr. Kakhaber Kemoklidze, Director of Information Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia proceeds with seizure of illegal firearms, weapon and ammunition and active struggle against illegal sale of them for the purpose of preventing crime.
The officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained two individuals in Tbilisi. P.M (date of birth: 1974) is accused of illegal sale of firearms and ammunition, the crime punishable from 6 to 9 years of imprisonment; G.B (date of birth: 1977) has been detained for illegal purchase and keeping of firearms and ammunition, which envisages the term of imprisonment for up to 4 years.
Investigation found that on April 13, this year P.M illegally sold out 2 pistols of "Glock 17" and "Glock 19" models for 7000 USD. Also, it was established that he systematically sold out illegal arms. The police seized from the arms store owned by P.M the illegal arms as evidences, in particular 2 Kalashnikov system automatic firearms of "G-47" model, the Makarov system pistol and a Carabine system rifle without the relevant documentation.
Following has been seized during personal search of his companion friend – G.B and the search of the cellar of his (G.B) house: "Glock 34" model pistol, Makarov system pistol with silencer and 8 cartridges, revolver with a drum, different models and system weapons, cartridges, as well as several dismantled firearms.
Ballistic and other types of expertise are scheduled for the purpose of determining the exact amount and operability of ammunition and arms.
The investigation shall reveal whether the detained individuals above had a criminal relationship, whether they sold out illegally weapons or it was managed by an organized criminal group.
Investigations is in progress on the fact of illegal purchase, keeping and sell of firearms and ammunition, the parts 2 and 4 of the article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
