The Ministry of Internal Affairs sent a Liaison Officer to NATO headquarter. The accreditation procedures of newly appointed Liaison Officer, Nikoloz Kavtaradze, were officially completed by NATO today.
On the path toward NATO integration, the MIA Liaison Officer will ensure permanent communication and coordination with the Allied Maritime Command, the Supreme Allied Commanders and NATO HQ. The deployment of a Liaison Officer is a significant political message and emphasizes the existing fruitful cooperation between NATO and Georgia.
It is noteworthy that after the Warsaw Summit 2016, in the framework of NATO-Georgia cooperation, special attention is paid to deepening cooperation in the field of maritime security, which is the sphere of competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This willingness of cooperation was confirmed by NATO-Georgia Commission Declaration at the Brussels Summit in 2018. A number of important initiatives on maritime security were defined in the declaration.
