The two-day seminar for Public Defender and Civil Sector representatives was held to discuss reforms planned at the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The event was organized by the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and funded by the EU Criminal Justice Support Project; the event took place in the Training Center of Justice in Kvareli.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Aleksandre Khojevanishvili, the Head of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Mr. Pim Albers, the Head of the EU Criminal Justice Support Program.
The event was held in round table format. Participants of the meeting discussed the issues of disciplinary proceedings of the General Inspection. The presentation was presented on structure, tasks, legislative framework, current and planned reforms of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Also, the statistics of the first quarter of 2018 on the activities of the General Inspection was presented.
Ms. Londa Toloraia, the Director of the Human Rights Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs spoke about the challenges of human rights protection, the ways of their solution, the achievements and the planned activities in this direction.
The representative of the International Relations Department made presentation on police activities` supervisory agencies and reviewed international practice in this regard.
Representatives of the civil sector talked about the existing challenges and discussed the ways of solving them together with other participants.
At the end of the meeting, the participants summarized the event and outlined future cooperation plans.
The seminar was attended by the representatives of different departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and NGOs.
