The officers of the Main Division for the Fight against the Organized Crime under the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with General prosecutor’s Office, as a result of special operation simultaneously held in Zugdidi and Khobi, detained two persons for the membership of the “Thieves’ World”.
On the basis of the relevant court decision R.G. (DoB 1959) and K.Q. (DoB 1964) were detained for the membership of the “Thieves’ World”.
Committed crime envisages from 7 to 10 years of imprisonment.
Investigation established that under the instructions of the “Thief in Law” – Roland Gegetchkori (nicknamed Shlapa) residing abroad, beginning from the current year, detainees occasionally contacted businessman B.T. and his partner –A.Ts. and demanded to transfer certain amount of cash in favor of the so called “Obshiak” of “Thieves’ World”. With this purpose, on November 18 of the current year, detainees held the so called criminal skirmish in the course of which, the mentioned businessmen were confronted by “Thief in Law” Rolan Gegetchkori through the internet. “Thieves in Law” obliged businessmen to pay 10 000 GEL each by the end of December. Roland Gegetchkori also categorically demanded that the business income would be split in half between A.Ts. B.T. and him.
Law enforcers detained the mentioned persons in their own places of residence after one of the victims handed over the demanded sum in the amount of 10 000 GEL.
As a result of the search activities held in detainees’ places of residence, police seized 9987 GEL and “GECO” pistol as evidence. Law enforcers have also seized their mobile phones, by means of which communication with the Georgian “Thief in Law” residing abroad was established.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of the membership of the “Thieves’ World”, article 2231I part of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
