The officers of the Main Division for the Fight against Organized Crime under the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of intensive investigative activities and special operative measures, detained 2 persons.
The detainees are: previously convicted D.Kh. (DoB 1974) and N.B. (DoB 1997) for membership of the so called “Thieves World” and illegal purchase, keeping and carrying of firearm as well as ammunition committed in group.
Committed crime envisages from 7 to 11 years of imprisonment.
Investigation established that detainees demanded 10 000 USD on behalf of the “Thief in Law” – Boria Afakela to pay in favor of the “Criminal World” from K.M. - businessman who was leading business in Tetritskaro municipality. Detainees threatened the businessman by demonstrating firearms, that he would be forcibly taken to the Republic of Turkey to face the “Thief in Law” in person and hold criminal skirmish.
Both detainees were taken under arrest by the law enforcers in one of the central parts of the capital, in the moment of receiving 5000 from the victim as part of the demanded cash.
As a result of the search activities held in detainees’ vehicle policemen seized 5000 USD, while from the places of their temporary residence, law enforcement officers have seized – 2 pistols, 2 cartridges, 13 bullets as evidence. Police officers have also seized mobile phones, by which detainees contacted Georgian “Thief in Law” residing abroad.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of membership of the so called “Thieves World” and illegal purchase, keeping and carrying of firearm and ammunition committed in group, article 2231 I part and article 236, VI part, sub-paragraph “A” of the criminal Code of Georgia.
