Briefing of Mr. Mamuka Chelidze, Head of the Main Division for Combat Crime Organized Crime of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on drug-related crimes solved and the drugs seized as a result of operative-investigative activities during the last two weeks.
As you are aware, Georgia is actively involved in combating trans-border drugs. For this purpose, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is closely cooperating with Interpol, Europol and is engaged in other international formats to fight cross-border crime. Also, Georgia has close bilateral ties with the partner countries to fight against organized crime. Specifically this cooperation has resulted in the detection and detention of the organized group which used to import large quantities of narcotic drugs in Georgia. Giorgi Giorganashvili, who participated in the criminal group, has been accused of new charges, Jaba Khulordava is convicted and Irakli Koridze, previously convicted, the organizer of the criminal group has already been sentenced to preliminary custody. Investigation is still in progress over this case in order to reveal a possible larger-scale international criminal scheme.
The officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operative-investigative measures detained L.A. – citizen of Germany, date of birth: 1977 – for a drug-related crime in Tbilisi. The sentence for the crime committed by him is the term of imprisonment from 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
Law enforcers seized 2644 pills of “Ecstasy”, 323 pills of “Subutex”, 400 grams of cocaine, about 1 kilogram of “MDMA” and 200 grams of amphetamine group drugs from the safe in the house of the detainee.
The investigation is underway on the fact of illegal purchase and keeping of narcotics drugs in especially large quantity - 6th part of the article 260 part of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Several days ago, the officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested R.S. - citizen of Kazakhstan (D.o.B.: 1974) at Tbilisi International Airport when he arrived in Georgia from Brazil via Dubai. The police seized 1 kilogram of drugs containing 676,1448 grams of cocaine during the search of his hand luggage. The crime committed by him envisages the imprisonment from 8 to 20 years in length.
Investigation is underway on the fact of illegal purchase, keeping and transportation and illegal import of drugs in Georgia.
For the last two weeks, 13 persons have been detained by us in Tbilisi, Ponichala settlement, Adjara, Kakheti, Guria, Shida Kartli and Samegrelo. 5 individuals among them are drug dealers.
2750 pills of “Ecstasy”, about 1 kilogram of “MDMA”, up to 1 kg of cocaine, 530 pills of “Subutex", 100 pills of “Suboxin", 200 grams of amphetamine group drugs, 13,6827 grams of heroin, 94 pills of methadone salt, 10 pills of methadone, 5,143 grams of methadone powder, 3,5765 grams of codeine salt, 2,9731 grams of morphine salt, 1,1514 grams of “Tebine”, 1 pack of so called “Syretz” and other drugs have been seized in total.
