On the occasion of the 12th anniversary of Russian-Georgian August War 2008, Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri along with his Deputies laid a wreath on the memorial of policemen fallen in the line of duty and paid tribute to their memory. The heads of departments under the Ministry of Internal Affairs also laid flowers at the memorial of the police officers killed in war for the territorial unity of Georgia.
During the August War 2008, Ministry of Internal Affairs lost 14 police officers and 5 employees of the Coast Guard. According to the decision of Vakhtang Gomelauri, families and children of the fallen policemen will be provided with material assistance.
