The First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Kakhaber Sabanadze, and the Director of Patrol Police Department, Vazha Siradze, hosted the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Carl Hartzell, the Ambassador of France to Georgia, Diego Colas, and the representatives of international organizations – IOM and ICMPD - at the Tbilisi International Airport.
The meeting aimed at detailed introduction of the preparatory work to the European counterparts undertaken by MIA for the efficient implementation of the amendments to the Law of Georgia on "Rules and Procedures for Georgian Citizens Exiting and Entering Georgia"
Kakhaber Sabanadze on-site described the procedure to the guests that will be applicable for the citizens of Georgian traveling to the EU/Schengen Area countries within the visa-free regime from 1 January 2021.
According to the amendments to the Law, the documents and conditions envisaged by the Schengen Regulation will be additionally examined at the Border Crossing Points of Georgia while in accordance with the rules established by the law, a citizen of Georgia may be denied to cross the State Border of Georgia.
Furthermore, the representatives of the Tbilisi International Airport participated in the meeting. They informed the guests about ensuring the engagement of airline companies to assure the smooth implementation of the process.
At the end of the meeting, the EU Ambassador to Georgia positively assessed the measures undertaken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and once again expressed the EU support for the effective implementation of the process.
