We would like to inform public regarding incidents revealed during parliamentary elections so far and the response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the mentioned facts.
In connection with the incident that took place in the vicinity of the polling station located in Public School N39, of Gldani settlement, police detained 6 people.
With regard to the confrontation that occurred at the polling station located in the building of public school N176 in Isani-Samgori, investigation was launched on the fact of gang violence, crime envisaged under the article 126, part I1 under the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Investigation is in progress under the first part of Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, in connection with the incident that took place at the polling station on N36 Kakheti Highway, Isani-Samgori district, Tbilisi.
On the fact of violence against an observer at N16 polling station in Senaki, investigation is in progress under the article162 I1of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
In total, investigation was initiated on 9 incidents that has been observed during the election process and investigative as well as procedural police activities are underway.
In parallel with the exposure of criminal facts, 15 cases of administrative offenses were revealed today within the frames of police jurisdiction, to which the police made instantaneous respond. Administrative proceedings were initiated on 7 facts and 10 persons have been taken under arrest, while interviews were conducted in connection with 8 facts.
In total, 10 persons were arrested in relation to 7 cases of administrative violation. Out of 10 detainees, 4 were apprehended under the Article 166 envisaged by the Code of Administrative Offenses, and 6 - in accordance with Articles 166 and 173.
We would also like to respond to media reports alleging that movement of special police units were noticed near to the polling stations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has made a number of statements on deployment/allocation of police forces with special equipment throughout the territory of the country in order to ensure public order. The relocation/deployment of the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the Election Day is connected to the fulfilment of their official duties, planned rotation, or the legal right of police officers to cast their vote.
We would like to underline once again that the major task of the police today is to maintain the rule of law and ensure that the elections are held in a peaceful and secure environment. In order to ensure the mentioned, police force are deployed/allocated throughout the country to fulfill their official duties within the frames of their jurisdiction, on designated perimeters near the polling stations, making maximum efforts in ensuring safe and peaceful conduction of the elections. Such deployments will continue throughout the day.
Herewith, the police will respond and foil any violation of the law, regardless of political affiliations.
