Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksadre Darakhvelidze participated in the 2nd steering Committee Meeting of the EU, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) joint project – “Human Rights for All – Phase 2”.
Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia – Nick Beresford, Senior Human Rights Advisor for the South Caucasus of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) – Vladimir Shkolnikov and Team Leader of Human Rights, Justice and Home Affairs of the EU Delegation to Georgia, Agata Nieboj delivered the opening remarks.
The representatives of the agencies evaluated the activities carried out within the project and stressed the importance of the project support continuation in the future.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze summarized the progress achieved within the project. The Deputy Minister highlighted the steps taken by the Ministry on protecting the rights of Persons with Disabilities. Among others, Deputy Minister emphasized the effectiveness of the cascade training of the representatives of the Patrol Police Department based on the training module on the protection of the rights of PwDs implemented in the MIA Academy. The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs also mentioned the positive outcome of relevant trainings, including those on the access to legal proceedings for PwDs.
At the end of the event, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze thanked the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the European Union for their continuous support towards the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The project has been carried out in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner agencies. The project aims to implement and monitor the national human rights policy; combat torture and other forms of ill-treatment; strengthen the mechanisms of personal data protection and protect the rights of vulnerable groups
