Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs- Aleksandre Darakhvelidze and US Ambassador to Georgia – Kelly Degnan attended the closing ceremony of the conference – “Women in Policing”.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and US Ambassador to Georgia awarded participants with relevant certificates.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze expressed gratitude to Kelly Degnan for US contribution in institutional development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and emphasized the role of female police officers in conducting gender sensitive judicial proceedings. US Ambassador paid attention to the importance of involvement of women law enforcers in the process of promoting security and peace.
The participants of the event paid one – minute tribute to the memory of female police officers who died in the line of duty.
During the 4 days training course, participants discussed such important issues, as: specifics of the work of female law enforcers and their challenges, the role of women police officers in strengthening gender equality and preventing domestic violence, violence against women and hate crimes, importance of involvement of female law enforcers in promoting peace and security. The event was also attended by the representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia, the Ministries of Finance and Justice, as well as Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau.
The event aimed at enhancing the capacities of law enforcers and raising their motivation.
The conference was held in the framework of the cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
