The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze attended the opening event of the EU-funded project "Prometheus" (Phase II).
The event was also attended by: Ambassador of France to Georgia - Sheraz Gasri; Ambassador of Italy to Georgia - Enrico Valvo; Ambassador of Latvia to Georgia - Mrs. Edīte Medne; le charg affaires, representative of Spain to Georgia- Marcos Granados Gomez; representative of the European Union Delegation in Georgia – Evija Kotan; Ekaterine Matchavariani - Director of International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vazha Siradze - Director of the Patrol Police Department; Teimuraz Kupatadze - Director of the Central Criminal Police Department, as well as representatives of various international organizations.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze addressed the participants of the event and guests with a speech. The deputy minister thanked the delegation of the European Union and the participating states of the “Prometheus” project consortium for their active support and fruitful cooperation. He especially highlighted the scope and importance of the assistance provided to the MIA Patrol Police Department within the first phase of the project. The Deputy Minister also emphasized the importance of strengthening the capabilities of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in the direction of border and migration management, as well as fighting against illegal migration and Trafficking in Human Beings (THB).
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze also reviewed in detail the progress achieved in the process of European Integration of Georgia and reforms and new initiatives carried out within scope of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in this direction. At the end of the speech, the deputy minister once again expressed his gratitude to international partners, especially the European Union, and hoped for fruitful cooperation in the future.
The second phase of the project “Prometheus” started in December 2022, and its main goal is to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in border and migration management, as well as in the fight against organized crime, taking into account the relevant agreements and action plans signed between the European Union and Georgia, especially the Visa Liberalization Action Plan. Within the framework of the project, trainings, workshops and sharing of best international practices are planned for the relevant departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The project is implemented in close cooperation with the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
