The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Tchikaidze is paying an official visit to Latvia. The Minister, together with the other members of the delegation, will meet with the representatives of Latvian National Police, State Fire-fighting and Rescue Service and the State Border Guard.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia actively cooperates with its Latvian counterpart. Particularly, cooperation is dynamically developing in the field of border management. Georgian delegation will get acquainted with the system of Latvian Border Guard Service, and share best practices both, in the fields of border guard and fighting illegal migration. It is worth mentioning, that Latvian side has already deployed Attache for Migration Matters to Georgia, who actively cooperates with Georgian colleagues.
There is sufficient legal basis for cooperation with Latvian side. Agreement on cooperation in fighting crime is in force and the agreement on cooperation in the field of emergencies is already signed.
The Minister will familiarize himself with reforms and actions taken by the Latvian law enforcement agencies to bring the system in compliance with the EU acquis.
The delegation of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs is comprised by the Minister and the Director of the International Relations Department and the Director of the Central Criminal Police Department. The visit lasts until 1st August.
