11-12 December 2018, The Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Giorgi Gakharia held a working visit to Strasbourg. Within the framework of the visit Minister of Interior held meetings with the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Secretary-General of the PACE Wojciech Sawicki, President of the European Court of Human Rights Guido Raimondi, Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert and Human Rights Commissioner Dunja Mijatović.
The purpose of the visit was the introduction of the ongoing reforms and the Systemic Upgrade concept, including the new methods and modern standard in police service, to the European partners. Within the framework of the visit, parties discussed implemented projects by the Ministry and achievement regarding Human Rights protection. The establishment of the Human Rights Protection Department was positively assessed during the meeting at the Council of Europe.
The parties also discussed the situation in the occupied territories and alongside the occupied territories line regarding the violation of Human Right of local population, discrimination on the ground of ethnicity and other factors that may hamper the proper functioning of international observation missions.
