Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri condoled to Beka Margishvili’s family who was killed in the line of duty and attended funeral ceremony.
The ceremony was held at Kashuati church. Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan bishop of Abkhazia and Bichvinta, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II personally condoled to the family of Beka Margishvili as well as Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, members of the government and parliament of Georgia. The funeral ceremony was accompanied by an honor guard.
“I would like to express my condolences to the family. This person was the part of the big family what we call the ministry of Internal Affairs; want to thank everyone, citizens who shared our grief. Support from the society was very important for our policemen. We are doing the best to detain that person and I want to call on this man to surrender to the police and be judged within the frames of the law. I have no desire to say anything new, of course we are working do not stand at one place. We are making progress and in the nearest future we will arrest him”-stated Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri.
On the evening of April 4, inspector-investigator of VIII police station of Isani-Samgori Police Division of MIA-Beka Margishvili along with assistant to the detective- Valerian Grdzelishvili was fulfilling his official duties in Varketili settlement, Tbilisi, in vicinities of Varketili subway, namely on Javakheti Street when they stopped Shalva Abuladze in order to verify his identity. The mentioned person opened fire to the direction of police officers unexpectedly and left the crime scene. As a result of shooting both police officers were wounded. Due to the received injuries Beka Margishvili died after being transferred at University Clinic. Valerian Grdzelishvili is undergoing medical treatment at First Clinical Hospital. Operative-searching and investigative activities are being held at the moment in order to identify and detain the offender.
