Mr. Giorgi Gakharia, the Minister of Internal Affairs met with Mr. Simon Mordue, the Deputy Director General for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship at the European Commission
The meeting was focused on the current issues related to visa-free travel of Georgian citizens to the European Union. The parties underlined the political and practical importance of visa liberalization in the country's European integration process.
The Minister introduced the measures taken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in response to the challenges in the process of visa-free travel. The Deputy Director General positively evaluated the cooperation with FRONTEX and Europol, the expansion of the police attache network, as well as the successful implementation of the readmission agreement by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In order to ensure effective implementation of visa-free travel, the parties agreed on the need to plan joint measures. For the purpose of reducing the challenges faced in the field of security and irregular migration, Mr. Simon Mordue introduced to the Minister of Internal Affairs the Action Plan developed by the EU. This once again confirms the willingness of the European Union for further strengthening of close cooperation with Georgia and strengthening joint efforts in the field of security.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia thanked the guest for the active support to the implemented and ongoing reforms in the process of Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration.
