Based on the recent legislative amendments, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia has approved changes in the rules for carrying, storing, transporting, and transferring weapons and ammunition in use or in possession.
By the order of the Minister, a new rule for carrying hunting weapons was defined. In particular, carrying a hunting weapon within a 500-meter radius in a populated area and / or the surrounding area shall be permitted only in a special case, in a discharged, cartridge-free condition. It must have fixed a security lock that prevents the weapon from being brought into combat condition, or a hunting weapon must be in an incompletely disassembled condition.
The order defines in detail the definition of incomplete disassembly of the weapon. In particular, a weapon shall be considered incompletely disassembled if all possible parts (basic components) in it are separated without the use of special tools. Naturally, this requirement does not apply to the weapons, construction of which does not allow it.
As a result of the changes, additional regulations regarding the storage of weapons have been established. In particular, weapons and ammunition must be stored in a condition that will ensure its protection and safety, prevent unintended (involuntary) firing and any access of unauthorized persons to it. In addition, weapons and ammunition should be stored in a locked storeroom and / or the weapon should have a safety lock attached in such a way that excludes to bring it into combat condition without removing the lock.
In addition, based on the change in the Order, the rules of transportation of acoustic (sound) weapons were defined.
Under the new legislative amendment, carrying of sound (acoustic) weapons has been banned; it shall be allowed only for use in theatrical performances, film and television screenings, historical reconstructions, parades and sporting events. Accordingly, when transporting a sound (acoustic) weapon for this purpose, the owner must have with him/her an official document certifying the relevant purpose, the use of which shall be allowed only once.
Violation of these rules shall entail the liability provided for in Georgian legislation.
