The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia - Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting with the Federal Minister of the Interior and Community of the Federal Republic of Germany - Nancy Faeser, within the framework of his official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.
The parties discussed the issues of cooperation in the field of law enforcement and reviewed the prospects of future relations. Vakhtang Gomelauri highlighted the importance of fruitful cooperation with German law enforcement agencies and expressed his gratitude for the continuous support German side is providing in the area of developing the capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The parties emphasized the measures implemented in the direction of the fight against illegal migration and organized crime, as well as the role of Police Attaches in this field. Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed readiness of the Georgian side to send Georgian police officers to the relevant units of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community of Germany and explained that this will not only contribute to the fight against organized crime, but also support the measures of controlling the illegal migration.
The German side noted that implementation of the readmission agreement with the European Union by Georgia is successful. It was also stated that the cooperation between Germany and Georgia is effectively implemented in this area. The measures taken by Georgia and the current reforms, which were implemented in response to the challenges of visa-free regime with the European Union, were also positively evaluated. The German side expressed its will to create bilateral working groups aimed at creating additional opportunities for Georgian citizens with various qualifications to legally work in Germany.
From Georgian side, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Federal Republic of Germany - Levan Izoria, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Director of the Central Criminal Police Department - Teimuraz Kupatadze, and Georgian Police Attache in the Federal Republic of Germany - Sergo Turmanidze, participated in the meeting.
From the German side, the meeting was attended by: Special Commissioner for Migration Agreements - Joachim Stamp, Chief of Directorate-General of Executive Staff, Planning and Communication - Bastian Fleig, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community - Bernd Krossser, Chief of Directorate of Migration, Refugees and Return Policy - Ulrich Weinbrenner, and Chief of Directorate for International and EU Affairs - Michael Niemeier.
At the end of the meeting, Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude towards the Federal Minister of Interior for her hospitality and invited her in Georgia.
