The employees of Samtskhe-Javakheti police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, within the framework of the ongoing investigation into the fact of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms, conducted investigative and procedural activities in the residential house of one of the citizens in Akhalkalaki.
On August 23 of the current year, on Davit Aghmashenebeli Street in Akhalkalaki, the driver of an "Opel" brand car allegedly fired a pistol at police officers driving a private car.
After the incident, the driver left the place of crime in a vehicle.
As part of the investigation, the driver of the car was soon identified and it was established that the Opel car was operated by A.M. (DoB1985).
As part of the ongoing investigation into the mentioned fact, during the search conducted by the law enforcement officers at A.M.'s residential house, the mentioned person did not adhere the legal request of the police officer, owning to which he was arrested under Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
Akhalkalaki District Court on August 24, recognized A.M. as a violator and sentenced to 11 days in prison.
Samtskhe-Javakheti Police Department continues investigation under article 236 III and IV parts of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms.
Herewith, the Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to respond to the briefing held in the office of the "United National Movement" party in connection with the mentioned fact, where the party's representative spoke about the search conducted in the house of their party member in Akhalkalaki, which was described as terror and political persecution against the family.
The mentioned statement is a falsehood, the initiation of the investigation and the search conducted by the police in the residence of A.M. was carried out in full compliance with the procedural legislation. Therefore, we publish the video footage depicting the shooting by citizen A.M., based on which an investigation was launched and a search was conducted by law enforcement officers in A.M.'s residence.
