Briefing of Deputy Director of the Central Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs
The officers of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operative-search and investigative activities detained A.G. (DoB 1976) in Senaki for membership of the Thieves World and extortion of cash in large amounts.
Investigation established that A.G. and his son (residing abroad) –G.G. (DoB 2001) extorted cash in the amount of 60 000 USD from M.K. (DoB 1967) under the threats to kidnap is son and liquidation of his family members. Detainees pretended that they were acting on behalf of Chechen criminal groups called “Magamed” and “Khakim” and were assisted by the Georgian “Thief in Law” – Temur Gvasalia (nicknamed “Temur Sokhumski”)
Law enforcers managed to detain A.G. in the moment of money extortion. During the personal search of the detainee policemen seized part of the extorted sum in the amount of 10 000 USD as evidence.
Detainee is accused of membership of the Thieves World and extortion in large amounts- article 2231 I part and article 181, II part, sub-paragraphs “A” and “C” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Detainee is also accused under the article 265, II part, sub-paragraph “A” envisaged by the Criminal Code of Georgia.
