The officers of Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained previously convicted L.Sh. (DoB 1998), as a result of search and investigation activities, for illegally obtaining personal data and unauthorized access to computer systems for gaining financial benefits.
The investigation established that L.Sh. created a page on the social network "Facebook", through which he misled the citizens, as if he was issuing low-interest fast loans.
Interested citizens sent their plastic card details to the mentioned page, which were actually sent to L.Sh’s personal page. After receiving the data, the accused person transferred various amounts of sums from the accounts owned by other citizens to the bookmaker's account, and then cashed illegally appropriated sums from the plastic card.
At this stage of the investigation, 14 victims have been identified; the damage caused to the victims mounts to GEL 3,930.
Investigation into the facts of illegal appropriation of personal data and unauthorized access to the computer system for illegal extraction of personal information for financial gain is in progress under Article 286 (1), Part II, Subparagraph “B”, Part III, Subparagraph “D” and Article 157, Part III, subparagraph “B” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
