Employees of Shida Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operational search measures and investigative actions, detained previously convicted and currently on probation M.G. (DoB 1988), for theft.
The committed crime envisions up to 5 years of imprisonment.
The investigation established that the accused person robbed the Church of the Holy Theotokos in Gori, from which he illegally appropriated money and hid from the scene of the incident.
Law enforcement officers arrested the accused shortly after the incident.
After arrest, he admitted the fact of stealing from 4 more churches, illegally appropriating money and a medallion with the image of St. George.
Police seized the part of the money stolen from the churches, as well as a medallion with the image of St. George as evidence.
The investigation into the fact of theft committed through illegal entry into a other’s storage is being carried out under Article 177 part II, sub-paragraph "b" of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
