Tbilisi Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the City Court of November 19, 2021, on the basis of which „Pirveli TV“ was ordered to deny the false information spread the TV company and pay compensation to the patrol inspector for moral damages.
According to the decision of the court, the information spread by TV "Pirveli" regarding the patrol inspector - Gela Kvashilava has tarnished the honor and dignity of the patrol – inspector and was completely slanderous. The court ordered the TV channel to pay compensation for the moral damage of the patrol inspector, as well as to broadcast the inforation of the court decision on Saturday.
On January 30 of the current year, TV Company “Pirveli” accused Gela Kvashilava, the unit commander of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Main Division of the Patrol Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, of drug trafficking. The same TV station published his photo, even though the author of the story was informed by the Department of Strategic Communications of the Ministry of Internal Affairs that the information was false.
Following the appeals court, the Chamber of Civil Cases ruled that Gela Kvashilava had nothing to do with drug trafficking, whereas “TV Pirveli” was aware that the obtained information was incorrect and misled the society on purpose.
