The Parliament of Georgia supported the draft resolution - "Ratification on Operative and Strategic Cooperation between Georgia and the European Police Service", with 98 votes. The mentioned agreement between Europol and Georgia came into force as a result of ratification by the legislative body.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Giorgi Mghebrishvili and Director of Europol, Rob Wainwright signed an agreement on "operational and strategic cooperation between Georgia and Europol" on 4 April. The director of Europol specially arrived to Georgia for signing the mentioned agreement with the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Based on the agreement, Georgia will have an opportunity to exchange crime-related information and personal data with the assistance of EUROPOL and law enforcement agencies of EU member states through safe communication channel. Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs will send a liaison officer at the headquarters of EUROPOL and participate in the activities within the frames of the joint investigative group of EUROPOL.
Such a high level agreement EUROPOL concluded with a number of countries, including United States, Canada, Australia, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and etc.
