Ministry of Internal Affairs received electronic surveillance technic and equipment for the second line inspection of the travel documents
Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili held meeting with the head of European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations General Directorate of the Euro Commission- Christian Danielsson.
At the meeting sides discussed issues related to the donation of the special equipment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia which is being implemented within the frames of EU-funded project “More for More” and discussed future plans of the cooperation with the EU in the scope of the Border Security enhancement.
At the end of the meeting the equipment handover ceremony was held. International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the financial support of the EU, handed over electronic surveillance technic and equipment for the inspection of the travel documents to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The event was attended by the head of European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations General Directorate of the Euro Commission and IOM chiefs of mission along with other invited guests.
“Western values and aspiration towards the western standards is our choice. Georgian government and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are making their best efforts to enhance border security. EU and partner organizations provide substantial support to our country with regard to this process. Within the frames of this support, a number of programs for technological and infrastructural development was implemented, which was aimed for structural units involved in the integrated border management.
Today’s event is an example of this successful cooperation which is aimed to provide Ministry of Internal Affairs with electronic surveillance technic and equipment for the second line inspection of the travel documents”-stated Minister Mgebrishvili.
Along with the guests, Minister of Internal Affairs viewed the equipment donated by the European Union, including the simulated Joint Operations Center, radio communication systems, surveillance cameras and equipment for the second line inspection.
Installation of the electronic surveillance system on Georgian-Turkish state border will contribute to the detection and foiling of trans-border crime and illegal migration cases.
Second line inspection equipment will be installed at 10 border crossing points all across the country, which will substantially enhance the capacities of the Ministry to conduct in-depth expertise to detect fake travel documents.
