Within the frames of the work visit to Brussels, Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili held meeting with Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Johannes Hahn.
Sides discussed important reforms implemented in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in recent years, including progress achieved in the direction of European and Euro Atlantic integration. At the meeting sides pointed out the role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the process of Visa Liberation Action Plan accomplishment.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili has made special emphasis on political and strategic importance of visa free regime and thanked Mr. Hahn for supporting Georgia in Euro-integration process.
Minister also discussed important reforms held at the Ministry, which were aimed to make the agency even closer to the western standards. Minister acquainted Commissioner with ongoing and scheduled projects, including multi-functional and high-tech Joint Operations Center, reform of the criminal police, analysis-based police activities and conversion of the MIA Academy into international study center.
At the meeting it was outlined that Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has made huge steps forward in relation to developing international police cooperation, which was positively assessed by Euro commission.
At the end of the meeting Giorgi Mgebrishvili and Johannes Hahn discussed plans for the future cooperation. Minister of Internal Affairs stressed the importance of the Euro commission support in the process of strategic implementing projects and programs, such as border defence and security as well as reformation of the emergency situations management sphere.
