Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili held meeting with United States Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly.
The main topic of the meeting was the parliamentary elections and pre-election environment. Giorgi Mgebrishvili acquainted the guest with planned and implemented activities aimed for ensuring peaceful and safe environment for the upcoming elections.
It’s very important for the Georgian government to hold elections in peaceful and safe environment, enable population and political parties express their free will and hold elections in full compliance with international democratic norms. Relevant MIA units are ready to ensure fair and democratic pre-election environment”-stated Minister of Internal Affairs.
Minister also introduced Ian Kelly to the memorandum of understanding concluded between MIA and Central Election Commission as well as newly issued special decree, envisaging additional activities from the side of the Ministry to ensure democratic and peaceful environment during elections.
At the meeting Minister and U.S. Ambassador also discussed visit to Baltimore, United states which is scheduled on September 30, during which Georgian side will receive 2 coast guard boats
