The Human Rights Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs presented nine-month report on its activities to the representatives of various state departments, nongovernmental and international organizations. The presentation was organized with the support and financing of the EU and UN Women.
"The platform for cooperation between the civil sector and the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been naturally created on the basis of the Human Rights Department. First of all, I would like to personally express my gratitude to each employee of the Department and, of course, to the representatives of the civil sector we are effectively dealing with for this cooperation. We frequently argue, sometimes we have very sharp discussions, we manage to achieve agreement on some issues though in some cases we have disagreements; anyway, we believe that the factor of the civil representative is very important in our country at this stage of development of democracy for strengthening the institutions.
On the example of the Ministry of Internal Affairs we can say that this cooperation gains particular importance for the more efficient work of the institutions. It is not possible to keep this balance without such cooperation; I would like to thank each of you who are here today, because we can not develop this civil environment in any other way. We all understand the level and degree of our responsibility and I am convinced that despite the sharpest discussions and sometimes acute evaluations we have a clear understanding of our responsibility before the civil society and we will proceed with this cooperation.
I would like to express my special gratitude to the EU representatives, as well as to all the people and the organizations that contributed to this event. Such events are the platform for us to have acute talk with each other, to agree with each other and sometimes - not to agree" – Mr. Giorgi Gakharia declared.
