The Minister of Interior, Mr. Giorgi Gakharia, has attended the annual report presentation of MIA Academy that was dedicated to the reforms and renovation work carried out during 2018.
In 2018, within the framework of the “Systemic Upgrade” of the Ministry of Interior, the Academy has become a professional police education institution that ensures the optimization of qualified human resources within the Ministry. Based on the new recruitment rules, the MIA Academy has the main role in the employees’ recruitment process. Moreover, during 2018, paid internships program was implemented in the Ministry.
In 2018, the Academy has developed and renewed 46 new programs/training to provide police with appropriate knowledge and skills, including the training program for Community Police Officers, based on which 66 officers were already retrained and 84 officers are still undergoing courses. Apart from this, the new training program was developed for investigators. Within the framework of investigative system reforms, up to 1200 investigators will be trained base on this new program.
In 2018, 4139 police officers were trained at the MIA academy that is an increase by 46% compared to the last year. Additionally, It should be mentioned that 16 692 police officers were trained through the e-learning program.
“The MIA Academy is the most important institution of the Ministry as we believe that education, honesty, professionalism, and motivation are those driving forces that should bring the quality of police activities to the new level. The MIA Academy has a crucial role in the “Systemic Upgrade” process” – noted Minister Gakharia.
The Minister visited the student residence that was fundamentally renovated in the framework of an infrastructure renovation project. The new student accommodation is designed for 93 students and will serve police officers from the regions of Georgia and trainers. Within the scope of the renovation project, the gym, sports hall and the simulation training space were fully rehabilitated. Additionally, The construction of the shooting ground for police officers in the territory of the Academy will be completed in 2019.
During 2019, different police infrastructure renovation, and educational projects will be implemented in the MIA Academy.
